Farmer and salesman. Died in Fredonia Township. Age 85 years, 6 months, 28 days, Burial : 25 February 1919.
Obituary - James Washington Harrington of Fredonia, passed to the great beyond February 22, 1919, after an illness of 4 years. Mr. Harrington was born in Savannah, N.Y. July 4, 1833, being 85 years, 7 months, and 15 days at the time of his death. he came to Michigan in 1851. On November 25, 1856, he was united in marriage to Miss Matilda Smith Belliars and to this union twelve children were born, one daughter dying in infancy. Besides his wife, he is survived by 5 daughters and 6 sons, 19 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, one sister, and two brothers who mourn his loss. In 1861, Mr. Harrington enlisted in the Civil war, being a member of Company M, 2nd Michigan Calvary and served as first Corporal. He took part in the battles of New Madrid, Shiloh, Gettysburg, and a number of others under General Sheridan. After honorable discharge he returned to Marshall. On March 7, 1866, he purchased the farm on which he had lived 53 years at the time of his death. He was a devoted husband, a kind and loving father, and was loved by all who knew him.
