Charles Edwin "Ed" Roberts married Lillie Mae Schrimcher in Alvin, Texas, at her home on June 20, 1909. There was a lovely writeup in the Alvin Sun Newspaper describing the wedding.
Lillie's mother Mary and stepfather, Henry Siebel were enumerated on the 1920 US Census for Gibson, McKinley, New Mexico. It is possible that Charles and Lillie moved their family from Alvin, Texas in 1926/27 to be near her parents.
On May 4, 1927, daughter, Sybil was born in New Mexico. On the 1930 US Census, Charles Edwin and family were enumerated on the census for Phoenix, Arizona where Charles was working as a retail grocery clerk.
The family eventually headed to California. The exact date of arrival is unknown, but it is between 1930 and 1935. They settled in the southern section of El Monte, in Whittier, Los Angeles County on a mini ranch with farm animals. Ed & Lillie were lovingly known by their grandchildren as Nanny and Pappy.
Charles' sister, Birdie Roberts Kost, made at least one trip to California to visit with him and his family about 1972.
Charles Edwin Roberts died, age 92, and is buried at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, California. His wife, Lillie May, and 3 of his children, Emmett, Sadie Ellen Roberts Mraz and Mary Ethel Roberts Fox, are also buried there.
