Wanette resident Sylvia Marie Pogue died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, in a Purcell nursing home at the age of 96.
She was born Jan. 5, 1913, in Wanette to Murry and Zula (Barnes) Higgins. She attended Wanette schools. She had lived in California until coming back to Wanetete in 1964.
She married Nelson Pogue. He died in 1972.
Sylvia worked for many years at the Wanette Schools, first for the Greenthumb Program, then as secretary, and then in the Library, retiring in 1992 due to ill health. She was a member of Wanette Church of Christ, a lifetime member of American Legion Auxilliary, 40 & 8, and the Rebekah Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothes, and three sisters.
Survivors include three sisters, Peggy Wustenburg of Wanette, Ola Mae Clair of Purcell, and Mildred Eversole of Saint Louis; five nephews, Bob Clair, John Eversole, Steve Moore, John Wustenburg, and Mike Higgins; three nieces, Christine Smith, Betty Schmidt, and Sue Gibbs; and many friends.
Service will be 10 am Friday, Oct 23, at Wanette Church of Christ with Doug Arnold and Bill Munser officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Wheatland.
