Note: The 1920 census and school records ascribe a 1916 birth year to her. The 1920 census by virtue of recorded age in years and months, the school records by both age and specific date.

The 1920 census recorded Vernice [Bernice] Higgins living on a farm in Pottawattomie County, Okla., with parents Murray and Zula and siblings: Silvie, Mildred, George, B?le, and Ola. Note: This is the only record for sister B?le, who was said to be the same age (9 months) as Ola.

The 1929 school records show Bernice living in the Binger Post Office community with siblings Sylvia, Mildred, George, Ola, Ellen, and Winford. The 1930 school records show them in the Fort Cobb P. O. area.

The 1930 census recorded Bernice Higgins living on a farm in Caddo County, Okla., with parents M. D. and Zula and siblings: Sylvia, Mildred, George, Ola, Ellen, and twins Louis and Lue. Note: brother Winfred was not listed among the household in this census.

The 1940 census recorded Bernice Marshall living in Houston, Harris, Texas, with husband James E. Marshall and daughter Betty B. Her husband was an electric meter reader.

Married David Carl Swenson in Bastrop County, Texas, Oct. 1964.
