[This is a memorial only as the actual gravesite of Zachariah Sproles is unknown; however, this cemetery is a likely place for his burial as his name is recorded on the Saron Church roles. (there is no marker at this cemetery for Zachariah)].

Zachariah (whose name appears variously in the records as Zachias, Zac, etc.) was one of many in the Sproles family clan that migrated from North Carolina to Holmes County Mississippi just prior to 1840. (It is speculated that he was a nephew of Solomon Sproles, Sr., and a cousin of Richard Sproles.) The first record of Zachariah is an 1827 purchase of inventory from the estate of James Bostick in Richmond Co., N.C. Also he is enumerated in the 1830 Richmond Co., N.C. census. He next appears on an 1837 Holmes Co., Ms. tax list and is listed in the Holmes County records thereafter. Zachariah and Elizabeth Skinner were married probably about 1825. Their children included: Mary Elizabeth (Polly)(married Salathiel Covington), Elijah B. (married Narcissa Simmons), Sarah Jane (married D.J. Lessel?), James R., John Wilson (married Sarah), Susan, Margaret (married 1.Harmon Chavis, 2.H. Alexander), Clarimon (married Wm Brooks), and Mary Frances (married Wm Bostick Sproles). Their three sons served in the CSA, Elijah and James both lost their lives in the War for Southern Independence.
Zachariah's birth/death dates are estimates. He and Elizabeth, both of advanced age, appear in the 1870 records but at no time thereafter.
Memorials for his children include:
"Polly", memorial # 22697664
James R., memorial # 27712892
John Wilson, memorial # 16993844
