He was a member of Castillian Springs Masonic Lodge No. 139 and his death date is shown in the Mississippi Masonic Death Records (by Wixon & Strickland) as 1872.
There is a "J.W. Sproles" listed in the CSA 29th MS Infantry Regiment, Company K (Dixie Rifles) Roster (this is probably John Wilson Sproles). Reportedly an inscribed gravestone for John no longer exists at Macedonia Cemetery. Although it is not known with certainty that John's widow (E.C. Sproles) is interred in Macedonia Cemetery, her burial will be shown as Macedonia Cemetery until evidence shows otherwise.
