Sylvia J. Waldschmidt, 65, Salina, died Sunday, July 8, 2007.

Mrs. Waldschmidt was born Sylvia J. Leiker on Dec. 26, 1941, in Salina to Leo and Matilda. She was a homemaker. She also worked for Wal-Mart for 17 years.

She married Bernard L. on Oct. 27, 1962, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Guild and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Jerome, Bart and Marcus Schmidt, and Jerry,Clarence, Elmer, C.F. and Isadore Leiker; and a sister, Mary Burton.

Survivors include her husband, Bernard L., of Salina; three daughters, Julie Kippes and husband Rick of Lindsborg, Patti Slansky and husband Tim of Chanute and Susan Gaughan and husband Bill of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Victor of Beloit; a sister, Melvina Gack of Salina; and three grandchildren, Emily and Joshua Slansky, and Taylor Gaughan.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Salina. The Rev. Jarett Konrade officiating. Burial will be in Mountt.Calvary Cemetery, Salina.
