Joseph Adams was the second son of Ellington Adams and Elizabeth Adams. He was born in Montomery County, Kentucky shorthly before the family moved to Prairieton Township, just west of Moweaqua, Illinois. He was a brother to Isom Adams, George W. Adams, Randall R. Adams, James Robert Adams, Martin V. Adams, John C. Adams and Lucy Adams as well as Rachel (Rice) and Martha (Bramblett). He married Nancy M. Widick on June 10, 1856. He and his wife Nancy had several children; Millie (Myers), George W. Adams (who married Essie Ayars), John Wheeler Adams (who married Jessie Ponting), Florence (Harpold), Iva (Cazalet), Eva (Johnson), Bette (Corzine), Anna (Denby), Jesse C. Adams (who married Amy Austin) and Emily, Norman and Idia all who died in infancy. Joseph died in Decatur, Illinois. Joseph Adams was a successful farmer, served in the Illinois State Legislature and was a Supervisor for Prairieton Township in Christian County.
