James Robert Adams was the son of Ellington Adams and Elizabeth (Gorden) Adams. He was born in Prarieton Township, just west of Moweaqua, Illinois. He was a brother to Isom, Joseph R., Randall R., George W., Martin and John C. Adams as well as sisters Rachael (Rice), Martha (Bramblett) and Lucy Adams. He died in 1853 when he was only 13 and was the first person to be buried in Adams-Gorden Cemetery, adjacent to the house where he lived.
