Augusta relatives and friends were shocked to learn on Tuesday that Free West had passed away. He was formerly a citizen of Augusta where he had a host of friends who extend sympathy to his bereaved wife, son, brothers and sisters. Funeral services for Mr. West were held at 2:30 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon from the M. E. church in Plymouth, conducted by Rev. G. G. Whipple, assisted by Rev. W. I. Jones. Internment was in Rosemont cemetery.

The following is taken from the Plymouth Tr-County Scribe:

Earl Freeman West, prominent Plymouth business man and jeweler, passed away at 10:30 this (Tuesday) morning at St. Francis hospital, Macomb, following an abdominal operation on Monday, March 25. Mr. West underwent a heavy operation eight years ago from which he never fully recovered although able to attend to business most of the time. "Free" West, as he was familiarily called, had conducted a jewelry store in Plymouth for a good many years and was always ready to do his part in the upbuilding of his home town and community and those who had business dealings with him always found him dependable and honest, a man whose word was as good as his bond. In the death of Mr. West Plymouth loses a valuable citizen, a splendid neighbor and a true friend.

Mr. West was a son of the late Edwin B. and Alice West and was born in Camden, Ill., on Jan. 29, 1871. His boyhood days were spent in Augusta but most of his manhood days were spent in Plymouth.

He is survived by his wife and one son, "Teddy", by three brothers, T.S. and Clem, of Augusta, and Ben, of Harvey, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs O.P. Leach, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Frank Young, of Moline, Ill., and Mrs. Mabel Worman, of Sangar, California, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
