Obituary
John Henry Cottam, son of George and Hannah Cottam, was born Mar. 14, 1870, in Porter county, Indiana and departed this life at his home in Hubbell, Feb. 15, 1939, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 1 day. When only a year old he moved with his parents to Kansas, where they lived until 1879, then moving to Thayer county, Nebraska, where he has since made his home.
He was united in marriage to Docia Riddle Nov 14, 1893 and to this union ten children were born. All of them are living. His mother, father, a sister and two brothers preceded him in death. He leaves mourn their loss, his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Jessie Davenport, of Troy, Kans. Mrs. Dorothy Moore of Salina, Kans. mrs. Goldie Woodside and Mrs. Bessie Zlab, of Hubbell, six sons, George, of Elk Creek; Johnny, of Deshler, Joe, Clarence, Leo and Virgil of Hubbell, a sister Mrs. Bert Baker, of Ashton Idaho; a brother, Schuyler, of Hubbell, and a host of relatives and friends. There is no death. An Angel form walks o'er the earth with silent tread. He bears our best loved ones away, and then we call them dead." Services were conducted in the Hubbell Presbyterian church February 17th by the Rev. Harold Reel, pastor of the Chester Chrisian Church, assisted by the Rev. Heizer of Hubbell, interment was made in the Hubbell cemetery.
