Schuyler Augustus Cottam was born in Porter County Ind. Sept 3rd, 1868. he passed from this life, in his home, at Hubbell Nebr., on March 24, 1940, aged 71 years, 6 months and 2 days.
When a small boy he and his brother, John, came with their parents to Nebraska and located on a farm near Nelson. Later they moved to Thayer county, on a farm near Williams, finally settling in Hubbell where he spent the remainder of his days.
Although Mr. Cottam lived a solitary life, yet he seemed perfectly content to do so. he was a good mixer and showed a very friendly, helpful attitude to all who were in need. He was honest and upright in all his dealings.
Some 35 years ago he became a member of the I.O.O.F. and remained a staunch member of the organization until his death.
His brother, John and sister, Mrs. Minnie Luce Ft. Morgan Colo., preceded him in death. he leaves to survive him his only sister, Mrs. Bert Baker Ashton Idaho, also several nieces and nephews and many kind friends. Mr. Cottam will be greatly missed in Hubbell.
Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church, March 28th, by the pastor, Rev. A.W. Ahrendts, choosing as his texts, "Am I my brother's keeper."-Gen. 4:9 and "Ye know not what shall be on the morrow."-Jas, 4:4. Burial was in the Hubbell cemetery under supervision of the I.O.O.F.
