Buford (Jake) Barnes, 73, of Rt. 3, Mendenhall died March 31 at Magee General Hospital after a long illness.

He was a farmer and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Services were held at 11 a.m. April 2 from Mims Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Gorthman and Rev. W.P. Blair officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemeterh and Mims Mitchell Funeral Home of Magee was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Barnes of Mendenhall; three sons, James E. Barnes of of Mendenhall, J.B. Barnes and Thomas M. Barnes both of Florence; two daughters, Nannie Lou Grubbs of Braxton and Mary Alice Hudson of Puckett; five brothers, Albert Barnes of Mendenhall, Gus Barnes and Lavell Barnes, both of Magee, Bob Barnes of Jackson and Ray Barnes of Biloxi; three sisters, Clara Walker of Jackson, Mildred Walker of Hattiesburg and Nannie Mae Barnes of Pelahatchie; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
