Ole Hammer, son of Peder and Ingeborg Hammer was born December 5,
1866 in Trondjehm, Norway, and came to the United States in 1871 with his
mother, older sister Anna, and twin brothers, Pete and Lars. His father
having came to this country two years prior, to procure a homestead and prepare
a home.
On October 16, 1889 he was married to Mary Nystrom at Scandia. They
lived on a farm near Yuma, KS until 1902 when they moved to the farm in the
southern part of Republic County, where he lived until 1946. The last 11
years of his life he has made his home with his daughter and family at
Hebron, Nebr.
Mr. Hammer departed this life Monday, December 17, 1962, at the age of
96 years and 12 days. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, a son
who died in infancy, and one grandson, Leslie Vannice.
He will be greatly missed by his children: Inga and Allen Vannice of
Concordia, Anna and Harry Ringer of Belleville, Esther and Clarence Stensaas
of Norway, Mabel and Rex Gardner of Hebron, Nebr. and Cora and
Clarence Widen of Concordia; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and
7 great-greatgrandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Tena Eastvedt of Scandia and
Karen Ross of Norway and one brother Alfred Hammer of Scandia.
