Lars, son of Peder and Ingeborg
Kvammen Hammer was born at Melhus near Trondheim, Norway, Europe, September 13, 1864. The first eight years of his life was spent in the small fishing towns
of Melhus and Buvik. On his eight birthday he left his
native Norway for America. Coming together with his Mother, sister Ann, his twin brother, Peder and brother Ole. His father had gone to America two years previous
to secure a homestead and prepare the new home. The home prepared was a dugout. Here the family lived until 1881. In this lowly dugout one sister Tana, and two brothers, Alfred and Jonas were born. One sister Carrie was
born in the Loghouse.
At the age of 24 he moved to the
N. O. Garher farm. Here he brought
his bride Ellen C. Nystrom to whom
he was married on February 28.
1889. It was here he departed this
life Wednesday morning December
9, 1942, having attained the age of
78 years, 2 months and 25 days.
Mr. Hammer has resided in the Norway community some over 70
years and on the present farm 54 years.
No greater pleasure was affored him than a
visit with relatives and friends.
He leaves to mourn his departure,
his wife and six children. Mrs. Benny
(Esther) Lervold, Carl, Lloyd, Harvey and
Harold all residing in this vicinity
and Iver of Scott Field, Illinois, and
18 Grandchildren.
He is also survived by his 3 brothers
and three sisters, Mrs. Anna
Hugos, his twin brother Peder, Ole,
Mrs. Einar Eastvedt, Mrs. Carrie
Ross, and Alfred, all of whom reside
in the Norway community. His death
is also mourned by a host of relat-
ives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his
Youngest brother Jonas.
