Elena T. Rivera, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, 95, of Sweetwater, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Sweetwater Healthcare Center.
A Rosary will be held 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel recited by Johnny Cave.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Michael Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Rivera was born Aug. 18, 1914, in Sweetwater, Texas. She married Joe Rivera in 1932, in Hamlin, Texas. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include three sons, Cruz T. Rivera, Sam Rivera and wife Lucy, all of Sweetwater and Richard Rivera of Portales, N.M.; one daughter, Pat Quirino and husband Lee of Arlington; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Victoria (Sadie) Abalos, Rita Abrigo and Juanita Vasquez, all of Sweetwater; and two brothers, Gregorio Torres and Leonard Torres, both of Sweetwater.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Florentino and Juanita Torres; husband, Joe Rivera, three brothers, Cruz Torres, Pedro Torres and Pete Torres; and two sisters, Demetria Jimenez and Mary Torres.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Rivera, Jerry Rivera, Lance Rivera, Richard Rivera, Louis Torres and Richard Torres.
