Willis A. "Pete" Cowger, 83, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, of natural causes.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11, at Episcopal Church of the Holy Nativity, 1021 W. 8th St., Meridian. The Rev. Barbara Bond, priest, will officiate. Arrangements are under direction of the Chapel of the Chimes, Meridian. His cremains will be interred next to his wife at the Meridian Cemetery at a later date.
Pete was born June 6, 1915, at Villisca, Iowa, the sixth of eight children of George and Ethel Cowger. In 1930 he moved with his family to Nampa, Idaho. He married Ruth Benton of Kuna in 1939, and began farming south of Kuna.
During World War II, Pete served his country in the U.S. Army. When he returned home, he and Ruth continued to farm and raise horses. In 1952 Pete began an additional career as an electrician for Alloway Electric. They moved to Meridian in 1959. Pete retired from Alloway after 25 years.
Pete loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and raising/training quarter horses.
He was a devoted husband, and had a dry sense of humor that touched many a heart.
Pete is survived by his brother, Warren Cowger of Nampa; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cowger and Eleanor Cowger, both of Nampa, and Virginia Cowger of Kuna; a brother-in-law, Roscoe Eckleberry of Marsing; and numerous nieces and nephews.
