Porterville - Joseph Mikesell, 87, of Porterville, died Saturday, March 12, 1977, at his home after a lingering illness.

Mr. Mikesell was born May 7, 1889, in Porterville, a son of Willard Richard and Sarah Ellizabeth Roberts Mikesell.

He was married to Martha Frances Lythgoe on Oct, 9, 1919, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He was a veteran of World War l, serving in the U.S. Army.

He had been a farmer and worked 15 years with the Union Pacific Railroad. He also worked at Hill Air Force Base and Utah General Depot.

He was an elder in the Porterville LDS Ward and served as counselor in the MIA and home teacher. He had been an assistant game warden and constable in the Porterville area.

Surviving are his widow of Porterville; the following sons and daughters; Abbott Mikesell, Roy Mikesell, both of Morgan; Darrell Mikesell, Porterville; Mrs. Duane (Ella) Hill, Ogden; Mrs. Bruce (Joy) Snethen, LsHoma, Oklo.; Miss Betsy Mikesell, Baldwin, Flo.; a nephew whom he reared, Earl Lythgoe, Washington Terrace; 28 grandchildre, 18 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are one brother and one sister, Sam Mikesell
and Mrs. Pearl Smith, both of Porterville.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednedsday at 1 p.m. in the Morgan Stake Chapel with Bishop Eugene Hays officiating.

Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary in Morgan tonight from 7 to 9 and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Interment in Porterville Cemetery.

Joseph and Martha had a family of 8 children, 5 of the 8 served in the Military. One son, Richard was killed during World War 11 after serving only 3 months in Germany and was killed in the Battle of the Bulge.
Another son Stanley died in a car accident at age 17.
