Spencer, as he was known, was born to George and Sarah Rathbun Osborn in WI. He moved with his family to Becker County, MN as a young man. By 1900, he was working in Turtle Lake in Beltrami County as a mail carrier.
On Oct. 9, 1914 he married Irene Gitchell in Hubbard County. They moved to Beltrami County, where his wife passed away only two years after their marriage.
Spencer then took as his wife, Hannah Wendt, a young widow with two children. They married April 3, 1917 in Bemidji.
They soon had one son, followed by two daughters and two more sons.
In June 1941, following a two month illness, Spencer died at the age of 65 years.
