Joseph BOWEN, 79, R.R. 1, Akron, died at Woodlawn hospital at 10:45 o'clock this morning, after an illness of two weeks. Among the survivors are the widow and a daughter, Bernice BOWEN, at home; a son, Willis [BOWEN], Akron, and a daughter, Mrs. Pauline HENRY, Michigan City. Friends may call after noon Wednesday at the Sheetz funeral home in Akron, where final rites are pending.

Final rites for Joseph BOWEN, 79, R.R. 1, Akron, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Akron Methodist church. The Rev. D. L. SLAYBAUGH and the Rev. Maurice KESSLER will officiate and burial will be in the Mt. Hope cemetery at Athens. Friends may call at the Sheetz funeral home in Akron until 1 p.m. Thursday, when the body will be removed to the church to lie in state. A retired farmer who had lived all his life in the Akron community, Mr. Bowen died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn hospital after a serious illness of one week. He was born in Henry township Sept. 15, 1878, to John and Jane HARTMAN BOWEN. On Jan. 19, 1901, he was married near Akron to Grace ALSPAUGH, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Bernice BOWEN, at home, and Mrs. Pauline HENRY, Michigan City; a son, Willis [BOWEN], Akron; five brothers, Nelson [BOWEN], Akron; Clem [BOWEN], Plymouth; Sam [BOWEN], Rochester; Ray [BOWEN], Argos; and Vern [BOWEN], Leiters Ford; five sisters, Mrs. Elva MECHLING, Argos; Mrs. Sarah WELLER, Waterman, Ill.; Mrs. Martha KINDIG, North Liberty; Mrs. Rose HATCH, Macy, and Mrs. Alice NORRIS, Rochester. Also, four granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. Two sisters died in infancy and two other brothers preceded him in death.
