Nelson BOWEN, 86, died at 2:45 a.m. today at his home in Akron following an illness of two weeks.
Mr. Bowen, a lifetime resident of the Akron area, was born in Fulton county Jan. 11, 1877 and was the son of John and Rebecca HARTMAN BOWEN. His first marriage was in 1900 to Emma NICODEMUS, who died in February of 1954. His second marriage was in May of 1955 to Bessie KRIEG, who survives. Mr. Bowen, a retired farmer, was a member of the Akron Church of God and the Fulton County Farm Bureau.
Surviving with the wife are three daughters, Miss Ruth BOWEN, Akron; Mrs. Doris STANLEY, Wabash, and Mrs. Lois DRUDGE, Claypool; three sons, Raymond [BOWEN], Lakeville; Paul [BOWEN], Akron, and Albert [BOWEN], Rochester; twenty-four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildre; three brothers, Clem [BOWEN], Donaldson; Ray [BOWEN], Argos, and Vernon [BOWEN], Leiters Ford, and four sisters, Mrs. Sarah WELLER, Waterman, Ill.; Mrs. Alice NORRIS, Rocheter, and Mrs. Rose HATCH, Macy. A daughter preceded in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Akron Church of God with the Rev. D. L. SLAYBAUGH officiating. Burial will be in the Athens cemetery. Friends may call at the Haupert funeral home in Akron after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
