John was thirty-two years old. He had not been well since a year ago last March, when he was stricken with a paralytic stroke. For five weeks before the end came, he was a constant sufferer and finally succumbed to death, owing to last illness he was postmaster at Fort Duchesne.
The funeral was well attended, although it was a muddy and stormy day. Mrs. Winnie Collett conducted the choir and they sang "Nearer My God To Thee," Oh My Father," and "The Lord is My Light." Ben A. Critchlow rendered very toughingly. "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go, Dear Lord." The speakers were B. O. Colton and Thomas Murray.
Interment took place in the Vernal Cemetery, after which a wealth of flowers, beautifully arranged were placed on his grave as tokens of love and respect. He is survived by a wife, Mrs. Clara Merkley Hislop and two children, his father and mother, three sisters and four brothers as follows: Mrs. Cloie Thomas, Nellie Haccking, Jessie Hislop, all of Vernal; George Hislop, Jr., of Nevada; Dave Hislop of Duchesne; Warren, who is in France and Mark. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to those bereft
