GEORGE HISLOP, NATIVE OF ENGLAND, CAME TO UTAH WHEN TEN YEARS OF AGE

MAESER (SPECIAL)--Impressive funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Maeser Chapel of George Hislop who passed away Friday evening, May 17, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marion Allen, after a lingering illness. Services were conducted by W. E. Bodily.

Beautiful floral offerings and plants decorated the rostrum and tables. A double trio sang "Lead Kindly Light." Invocation William H. Siddoway, duet "Whispering Hope" was sung by Mrs. Charles P. Maughan and Leslie Thacker.

O. D. Allen, an old acquaintance and friend, spoke of his honesty and integrity and sacrifice for his family. Mrs. Mae Jorgenson sang "One Fleeting Hour," accompanied by Mrs. James Long. John I. McConkie told of his early acquaintance with Mr. Hislop, of his high regard for his friends and neighbors.

Ernest Eaton told of his honesty, "An honest man is God's noblest work" and his early pioneer life. Vocal solo, "Oh My Father," by George Davis, accompanied by Mrs. Elva Davis. Closing remarks by W. E. Bodily. Singing "I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go." Benediction by Elmer Lind. Interment was in the Vernal cemetery, the grave being dedicated by Thomas Bingham.

The casket was attended by Gordon and Myron Hacking, Martin Hislop ,grandsons (and) sons David and Warren Hislop and Marion Allen, a son-in-law.

George Hislop was born in England April 24, 1858, a son of John and Agnes Rodgers Hislop. At the age of ten years he emigrated to Utah with his mother, brothers and sisters. His father and mother were baptized in England, his father died before leaving for America.

The family lived in Huntsville, Utah. On October 11, 1878 he was married to Phoebe Caron Bingham, coming to Ashley Valley in October 1881. For some time they lived in Dry Fork, later moving to Glines Ward. On April 23, 1893 he was called to England on a mission, returning in 1895. He was set apart as counselor to the bishop in September 1889 acting in that capacity for several years.

He moved with his family to Maeser in 1905 where he since has resided. Ten children were born to this couple, five of whom survive as follows, George, Susanville, California; David, Warren, Mrs. Nellie Allen of Vernal; Mrs. Jessie Thomas, Oshkosh, Nebraska; 28 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Allen of Huntsville.

Mr. Hislop was a rock mason by trade, having done considerable work in Uintah County. His wife preceded him in death six years ago, and since that time he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Marion Allen. Mr. Hislop has been suffering for some time and he passed away Friday at 7:00 o'clock.

Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Allen, nephew and his wife, of Tooele, were in attendance at the services.

George Watt Hislop was the son of Agnes Rogers and John Hislop.

He married Phoebe Caron Bingham August 11, 1878 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

To this union they had the following children: George Thomas Hislop, David Andrew Hislop, John Hislop, Chloe Agnes Hislop, Mary Lucinda Hislop, Charles Hislop, Warren Hislop, Emma Manella Hislop, Jessie Isabell Hislop and Mark Edwin Hislop.
