Avis Horner Farley Wolthuis was born on July 11, 1912 in Heber, Utah to William Eaton and Esther Brown Horner. She passed away peacefully on July 30, 2001.

Avis married her Wasatch High sweetheart, Owen T. Farley on February 18, 1932 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three children: O. William (Mary), Earl Brent (deceased) and Douglas Paul (Lell). Owen, a policeman was killed in the line of duty on May 23, 1951. Avis was so proud of her three sons, 16 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. Her brothers were: Faris Horner (deceased), Glade Horner (Yvonne) and sisters: Elva H. Ritchie (deceased) and Vonda H. Huntington (deceased); brother-in-law, Rulon Huntington.

Avis married Frank Wolthuis on Dec. 8, 1965 moving to Ogden. They spent the next 25 years there. During those years she traveled, and grew to love Frank's children, Robert (Carolyn), Marion Stuart (Kenny), Henry (Molly), and Lynette Hancock (Texas), and their great families. Frank died in 1991.

Avis was a loving, courageous, compassionate woman. She was active in the LDS Church and shared her wonderful musical talent directing countless roadshows and other musical programs. She believed music captured the essence of life. Mom loved life and helped each of us feel that love. You will always be with us, Mom, especially as we sing around the campfire with your grandkids and great grandkids. You are our "Elegant Mother." Special thanks to the staff of the Murray Care Center for their tender care of Mom.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, at noon, August 2, 2001 at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel. 3401 S Highland Dr., where friends may call Wed., August 1 from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment at Heber City Cemetery.
