Jessie Lee Hinton was born 29 December 1889 in Carbon Hill, Alabama. She was the second of ten children born to Charles Carlyle Hinton and Sarah Hortence Jones.
Jessie's first marriage was to Jesse Jones Gunn in 1906. Their children were William Lyle 1907-1985, Lila Ruth 1911-1954, Howard Burl 1922-1975, Helen Jean 1924- , James Garland 1925-1988, Marion Faye 1929-1929, and Wilson Lyle 1930-1988.
Jessie and Jesse divorced sometime between 1911 & 1913 and she married Raymond Prescott Allen 1881-1923. Two records of marriage are found for them the first being 16 June 1913 and the second being 18 November 1913 in Muscogee County, Georgia. Jessie & Raymond had 2 children Raymond Anderson 1914-2002 and Mary Elizabeth 1918-1987. We are not sure if Jessie divorced Raymond or she reunited with Jesse Gunn after Raymond's death. No divorce record is found.
Times were hard during the late 1920's early 1930's and apparently Jesse was left to raise 8 children alone. She moved to Birmingham in late 1929 early 1930 and was very ill with TB. In April 1930 she began to "feel somewhat better" and moved sometime after that to Decatur Alabama to be close to her older children and they helped her raise the younger ones.
On the 24 February 1935 the disease was too much for her frail body and she passed away in Decatur, Alabama.
