Obituary:
Jesse William Briggs of Fayetteville died on Wednesday, February 8, 1961, at 10:45 p.m. at the home of his son, Julian Briggs of Fayetteville. He had been in failing health for the past three years. He was born March 13, 1885, in Burnt Cabins, a son of Thomas and Amanda (Gallaher) Briggs. He was married to Margaret Rebeccah Hampton of Shade Gap in McConnellsburg in 1907. His wife survives along with the following children: Robert Briggs of Fayetteville, Donald Briggs of Fayetteville, Julian Briggs of Fayetteville, Glenn Briggs of Chambersurg, Mrs. Edith Locke of Fayetteville and Mrs. Geraldine Kelly of Perulack. There are 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Briggs was of the Methodist faith. During his life he had followed the occupation of a sawyer and had been employed by the Harbison-Walker Refractories, retiring in 1952. Mr. and Mrs. Briggs had resided in Orbisonia until about two years and one-half years ago when they moved to Fayetteville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 11, at 2 p.m. from the Ott funeral home in Orbisonia. The Rev. John Kane, pastor of the Methodist Church in Fayetteville, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Presbyterian Cemetery at Burnt Cabins. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. this evening until the time for the service on Saturday.
