From the Midway Baptist Church, Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. George Gay, pastor of the Okolona Baptist Church, officiating, funeral services were conducted for Mrs. J. E. Dendy, who died Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. G. Chenault in Okolona. Burial was in the family cenetery with B. C. Hill Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Dendy, who had passed her 95th birthday in February was probably the oldest citizen of Chickasaw County. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hosea Wofford, pioneer citizens, and had spent her entire life in the county.
She married J. E. Dendy on Aug. 14, 1867. To this union 16 children were born, eight sons and eight daughter. Shortly afer they celebrated their 67th anniversary, Mr. Dendy passed away.
At the age of 16 she united with the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, she and Mr. Dendy being baptized at the same service. A few years after moving to Houston in 1906, she moved her membership to the Baptist Church here.
Following Mr. Dendy's death she divided her time among her children. During the last 10 years of her life her hobby was piecing quilts and she had completed over two hundred, which she had given to her grandchidren and great grandchildren scattered throughout the country.
Besides Mrs. Chenault, she leaves three other daughters, Mrs. J. H. Lyles, Mrs. L. A. Nichols and Mrs. A. T. House, all of Houston; four sons, W. A. Dendy of Vardaman, A. J. Dendy of Yazoo City, J. T. Dendy of Santo, TX, J. Y. Dendy of Strawn, TX; seventy grandchidren, eighty-three great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
