Oscar Barton, 56, native of the Sardis community, Winn Parish, died suddenly Monday morning at his home in Olla following a heart attack. He had been residing in Olla about 10 years, where he had served as city marshal of Olla and as deputy sheriff of LaSalle Parish for the past eight years.

Prior to moving to Olla he was a longtime barber of Winnfield, and also served as City Marshall of Winnfield a number of years. He was a member of Eastern Star Masonic Lodge No. 151, Winnfield, and of the Olla Baptist Church.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church of Olla Tuesday afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Cox, officiating. Assisting was the Rev. T. T. Edwards. Acting as pallbearers were LaSalle Parish deputies and state troopers.

Burial was in Sardis [Brown] Cemetery with Masonic rites conducted by the Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 of Winnfield.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Anderson Barton of Olla; one son, Clifton Barton, Olla; two daughters, Mrs. Cliff Stewart, Natchez, Miss.; and Mrs. Shep Tison, Shreveport: two brothers, E. B. and Frank Barton, both of the Sardis Community; six sisters, Mrs. Irene Hughes, Mrs. Ophelia Simmons, and Mrs. Johnnie Cathey, all of Shreveport; Mrs. Majel Donohoe, Mrs. Ella Mae Russ and Mrs. Ruth Brady, all of Winnfield. He also leaves eight grandchildren.
