Erb Benjamin Barton, 72, lifelong resident of the Sardis Community, died at his home Wednesday, Sept. 21, 1949, after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Henry Keys and Rev. F. M. Shows officiating. Burial was in the Old Sardis [Brown] Cemetery with Rev. Alwin Stokes and Rev. Mitchell and the Masonic organization in charge.

Mr. Barton was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church and the local Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Shelton Barton, who he married 52 years ago; six daughters, Mrs. Irene Hughes and Mrs. A. G. [sic H. E.] Simmons, Shreveport; Mrs. L. E. Donohoe and Mrs. A. C. Russ of Winnfield; Mrs. John A. Brady, Monroe; and Mrs. J. W. Gore, Houston; and three sons, Oscar Barton, Olla; Frank and E. B. Barton, Jr., Winnfield.

He also leaves one brother, Charlie Barton, Winnfield; three sisters, Mrs. Ruby Tidwell, Georgetown; Mrs. Vashti Collins, Atlanta; and Mrs. Mimi Ray, Winnfield; 22 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
