Victoria "Cora" Gross, 100 year old resident of the Pierz Villa, formerly of Harding, MN, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Pierz Villa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 20 at 11 A.M. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding, MN. A visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at the church.
Victoria "Cora" Gallek was born October 22, 1915 in Wells, MN to the late Demetrius and Julia Gallek. She moved to a farm in Harding, MN, as a young girl where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Herman Gross on November 28, 1936. The couple made their home in Lastrup, Minnesota, and was blessed with a daughter, Sharon. The couple moved to Oregon during the World War II and worked in the shipyards, where Cora was a "Rosie the Riveter." After the war the couple moved back to Lastrup, where she worked at the Lastrup Creamery. In 1956, they moved to St. Cloud, MN, where Cora worked at the St. Cloud Hospital as the House Keeping Supervisor. After 22 years she retired and the couple moved back to Harding, MN. She was proud of her Polish heritage and worked hard all her life. She loved her church, home, gardening and spending time with people. Cora was a gracious host and always made sure you were treated to a delicious meal, and if you were lucky enough, to her delicious fried chicken. She will be remembered for her world famous Carmel Rolls and Banana Bread. She loved her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sharon (Darrell) Nystrom; grandchildren, Daron (Kristine) Nystrom, Dana (Melissa) Nystrom, Sharrell (Todd) Lindorff; great-grandchildren, Kory Nystrom, Mackenzie Lindorff, Payton Lindorff, Haley Lindorff and great-great-grandchild, Leighton Struntz.
She was welcomed into heaven by loving family, parents, Demetrius and Julia Gallek; husband, Herman Gross; brothers, William Dembouski, Joseph Dembouski, Walter Dembouski and Alec Gallek; sisters, Peggy Glassman, Elsie Gallek, Julia Woitalla, Amelia Gross and Marie Steele.
