NEW HOLSTEIN
Henry Greve, one of the pioneers of New Holstein, was called to his reward early on Thursday morning of last week, death being due to a stroke of apoplexy, after an illness which confined him to his bed for a number of weeks.
Decedent was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, Jan. 21, 1845. He came to America with his parents in the spring of 1852 at the age of 7 years. His parents purchased a farm one mile north of Kiel which he helped clear of a heavy growth of timber. He spent two years at Davenport, Iowa, and then returned to New Holstein, purchasing a woodland farm in the town of Rantoul.
In 1869 he was united in marriage to Doris Severin.
Two children were born of their union, And. Greve, Jeffres, Minn., and Mrs. John Dekker of this village. After the death of his first wife he was married to Sophia Greve on June 18, 1874. After living in the town of Rantoul for nine years he came to New Holstein and bought a farm one mile north of the village now owned by his son, Robert. After selling the farm to his son in 1913 he moved to this village.
His second union was blessed by six children, Mrs. Ferd. Kreimann, Rud. Greve, Mrs. Olga Hass, Robert Greve of New Holstein, Alfred Greve, Seattle, Wish., and Mrs. Herman Wessel who passed away 16 years ago. Besides the children he is survived by his wife, 2 brothers, Claus, Andrew and Wm. Greve and one sister, Mrs. Anna Kuehl, all of here. Also 19 grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, Rev. A. C. Plappert officiating.
