He was born in Germany in 1812. In 1850 he left his native home and the same year settled in New Holstein. In 1842 he was united in marriage to Margaretha Roeh.
Ten children were the result of this union. His wife and two daughters preceded him to the Great Beyond. Five sons, and three daughters and three brothers mourn his death.
