Carl and Bernice were the parents of 2 daughters. Carl worked for the railroad for a time, but was a farmer in Jefferson County, Missouri for many years.
Carl was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. He also belonged to Blackwell Lodge 535 AF & AM and Dillon Chapter 15 Order of the Eastern Star.
At the time of his death at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Carl was 79 years, 2 months and 23 days old.
He was survived by his wife, Bernice; 2 daughters, (Living) Hoelzel and (Living) Courtois, both of De Soto, Missouri; 2 step-sons, Bob Winckel of De Soto, and Gussie Winckel of Florissant, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Rose Eads, Minnie Vint and Katheryn Killebrew, all of St. Louis County, Missouri; and 1 brother, Herman Hoelzel of St. Louis County.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Conrad Hoelzel, who died in infancy, George Hoelzel, Elmer Hoelzel and Frank Hoelzel.
Funeral services were conducted on 17 Mar 1984 in the chapel at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home. Carl was buried at Moontown Cemetery, but was later reinterred at Woodlawn Cemetery in DeSoto, Missouri.
Carl's wife, Bernice, passed away in 1989.
