Emma was the youngest child of early Monroe County, Indiana settlers named Adam Butcher and Frances "Jane" Tillet. Both of her parents died by the time she was 10-years-old.

Emma lived with her older sister and brothers until she married John E. Vint on 19 Sep 1880 in Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana at the age of 15. Around the time of their marriage, John worked as a shingle maker and later as a farmer. He worked at the Showers Factory for several years.

Emma and John were the parents of 5 sons--Vine, Clarence, Tom, Tobe and Lee.

Vine (also known as Buck), Tom and Lee were journeyman plumbers. Tom owned and operated the Vint Plumbing Company in Monroe County, Indiana. Clarence made the military his career, and Tobe was in the export business.

John E. Vint died in 1921.

Children from first marriage: 5 sons.

Emma married Isaac Marion Minton on 31 Aug 1927. He was a widower and the father of 11 children from his first marriage to Jane Bailey. Emma and Isaac lived in Cobb County, Georgia where he was a grocery salesman. He had been a house carpenter when he was younger.

Emma and Isaac later divorced, and she moved in with the family of her oldest son, Vine.

Isaac married a third time and lived in Fulton County, Georgia until his death in 1957, a few months before what would have been his 100th birthday.

Children from second marriage: 6 step-daughters, 5 step-sons.

Emma died in 1946 of a coronary occlusion and complications of old age at the Wilkins' Nursing Home where she had been a patient for several days. At the time of her death, she was 81 years, 3 months and 3 days old.

She was survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Minnie Vint of St. Louis County, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by 4 sons, Vine, Clarence, Tom and Tobe Vint; all of her siblings; and 6 grandchildren, Helen Vint, Mabel Vint, Everett Vint, Hazel Vint, Alice Vint and Robert Vint.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of 02 Jul 1946 at the Sixteenth Street Pentecostal Church.
