SUICIDE

Louisville, February 26-Adam Butcher, a farmer living near Bloomington, Indiana, shot himself yesterday morning. After learning of her father's death, a daughter, 17 years old, admitted that her child was his offspring.

This fact is supposed to have prompted Butcher to the rash act.

3.) The information noted below was abstracted from: Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans Home, Admission Packet, Greenberry, Nora and William Williams. Available at the Indiana State Archives, Indianapolis, Indiana.

On August 20, 1887, Nancy Jane Williams of Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana, completed applications for the following individuals to be sent to the Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans Home.

Greenberry Williams, born April 1, 1878, no place of birth noted
Nora Janetta Williams, born June 10, 1881, Ellettsville, Indiana

William Williams, born August 20, 1884, Ellettsville, Indiana

That application was approved on September 1, 1887.

The father of the children was identified as William Williams, a native of Greene County, Indiana, who served in Co. B, 18th Regiment, Indiana Infantry. He reportedly died in Ellettsville, Indiana, on April 29, 1884. His death was the result of a dynamite explosion. Nancy Jane, the person making the application, was the mother of the children. She said she was too poor and unable to provide for their support.
