Spanish American War Veteran, husband of MARY LYNN NODINE CLAYTON, son of MARVEL MILTON and SARAH E. WILLIAMS CLAYTON, both buried in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Greer- GEORGE P. CLAYTON, 73, of Wood Street, died Saturday morning at Veteran's Hospital in Columbia. He had been in declining health 15 years and seriously ill several weeks. Mr. CLAYTON was a Veteran of the Spanish-American War and a member of the JOSEPH K. ALSTON Camp No.7, United Spanish-American Veterans of Greenville. Born and reared in the Holly Springs Section, he was a son of the late MARVEL and SARAH WILLIAMS CLAYTON. A resident of Greer the past 23 years. Mr. CLAYTON was a member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church. Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. MARY LYNN CLAYTON; one daughter, Mrs. D. A. ARMSTRONG of Greer, Route 2; one step-son WYATT NODINE of Greer and SIMEON CLAYTON of Campobello Route 2; two sisters, Mrs. HATTIE DILL of Campobello Route 2 and Mrs. SALLIE GUY of Seneca. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 5 p.m. at Wood Mortuary by the Revs. J. ROY ROBINSON and W. Y. HENDERSON, Burial will be in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The following nephews will serve as pallbearers: PAUL, WADE, BASCO, MILES, CLAUDE and BROOKS CLAYTON. The Men's Baraca Class of the First Baptist Church will form the honorary escort. The body is at the mortuary and the family is at the home on Wood Street.
