GREER, SC - October 31 - Samual A. Clayton, 75, retired contractor and resident of 216 Fairview Avenue, died in a Spartanburg hospital Saturday at 7 p.m. following an extended illness.
Born and reared in the Holly Springs section, he was a son of the late Marvin and Sarah Williams Clayton. He had been a resident of Greer for the past 43 years and was engaged in the contracting business for 50 years. He was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and was a veteran of the Spanish-American War.

GREER, SC - November 1 - Funeral services for Samuel A. Clayton, 75, of 216 Fairview Avenue, who died in a Spartanburg hospital Saturday at 7 p.m. after an extended illness will be conducted Monday at 4 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas Neely, assisted by the Rev. John K. Johnston. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The following nephews are asked to meet at the church Monday at 3:45 p.m. and serve as pallbearers: Paul, Dewey and Gerald Clayton, Tracy Gaines, Jennings Dill and Edward Breshears.
The following are asked to meet at the church Monday at the same hour and compose the honorary escort: Jim Wood, Bomar Wood, Melvin Bruce, B. B. Waters Sr., M. F.
