Roy Carter Herd, 59, passed away at Northwest Texas hospital in Amarillo Sunday January 30, 1966, after a months serious illness.

Mr. Herd was born in Cook county, Texas July 19, 1906 to John and Mary Louise Herd and was married to Iona Vernice Gaines March 5, 1934 at Cheyene [sic], Okla.

He moved to Wheeler county in 1920 and had farmed all his life.

Mr. Herd was a member of the Wheeler First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Iona; one daughter, Mrs. Dean Tipps of Briscoe; one brother, Hammy Herd of Wheeler; four sisters: Mrs. Clara Maxwell of Wheeler, Mrs. Ara Crowder of Wheeler, Miss Bessie Herd and Mrs. Mattie Hargett of Tahoka, Texas; 3 grandchildren and one brother and 2 sister preceded him in death.

Services were held in the First Baptist Church of Wheeler, Monday January 31, 1966 at 2:30 with Rev. C.M. Abercrombie officiating.

Burial was in the Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of Wright-Denson Funeral home.

Serving as pall beaers [sic] were Tommy Height [sic], Furman Maxwell, Olen Maxwell, James Gaines, Richard Gaines and Dennis Wilsford.

Honorary pallbearers: L.A. McWhorter, Frank Risner, Fat Moore, Marvin Pierce, Rufus Watts, and C.R. Crafton.
