Funeral services were held for Emmett H. Herd Monday, July 18 at 2:30 P.M. in the Baptist Church in Wheeler with Rev. M.B. Smith assisted by Rev. Boyce Evans officiating.

Mr. Herd passed away at the Wheeler hospital July 16, 1960. Age 64 years, 5 months and 21 days.

Emmett H. Herd was born January 25, 1896 in Knoxville, Tenn. He moved to Denton County Texas with his parents in infancy. He entered military service in 1917 and served his Country two years. One of which he served in France. He moved to Wheeler County in 1921 and had resided on his farm east of Wheeler since that time.

He was married to Ethel Richards at Denton, Texas, on August 18, 1921. To this union were born two daughters, Marie and Maurine.

He made a profession of faith and joined the Baptist Church in early manhood and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wheeler. He is survived by his wife, Ethel and daughters, Mrs. Marie Hampton and Mrs. Maurine Brotherton, three grandsons, Richard, Larry and Steve Hampton, two brothers, Hammy and Roy of Wheeler; six sisters, Virtie Anderson of Sweetwater, Okla. Mrs. S.A. Maxwell, Wheeler,
Mrs. H.H. Dearman, Lodi, Calif., Mrs. H.O. Hargett, Tahoka, Tex., Bessie Herd and Mrs. L.T. Crowder of Wheeler. A number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Pall Bearers were Richard Gaines, James Gaines, Olen Maxwell, Furman Maxwell, J.D. Herd, and Hersel Anderson.

Honorary Bearers were ? (in paper binding) Barham, George Hefley, ? (in paper binding) sons, George Gandy, J.C. Holcomb, Harry Wofford, ? (in paper binding), Claudie Brotherton, Jim ? (in paper binding), Robert Holt, H.C. ? (in paper binding), O.W. Pendleton.

Interment was in the Wheeler Cemetery under the direction of the Kirk Funeral Home.
