Eva Lang was born in Bavaria, Germany,
April 29, 1830, departing this life
November 21, 1917 age 87 years,
6 months and 12 days. Deceased came
to this country with her parents
settling in Muscatine county, Iowa
1848.
On March 6th 1852 she united in marriage
with Michael Fisch who departed this
life June 12th 1910.
To this union were born eight children,
four now living, four with the father,
having preceded her to the better land.
The children are Jacob of Gaza, Mrs.
Catherine Gabriel of near Deep River,
Mrs. Anna Irons, of Keswick and Mrs.
Carrie Maurer of Wilton, all of this
state.
Grandma Fisch with the family moving
to Iowa county in the year 1873, lived
there until 1888 when they moved to
Keswick where they resided until the
death of the father. Since then she
has spent her summers in Keswick and
her winters with her daughter Mrs.
James Gabriel of the old home place.
Sister Fisch was converted over 60
years ago uniting with the M. E.
church. About twenty-three years ago
she with her husband united with the
Methodist Protestant church of Keswick.
During these years she lived a
consistent christian always interested
in the progress of the gospel and the
welfare of the church. In memorial
of her devotion she leaves one of the
large windows in the fine new M. P.
church in Keswick to be dedicated
December 16th.
A kind and loving mother, a good
neighbor are only a few of the many
things we might say of grandma as
charity did not end with the family
and church. She did her bit to the
last. Only four weeks ago, the last
of her hand work, consisting of three
pair of knitted socks, were turned in
to the Red Cross at North English.
Just one week ago Velda Irons, her
young grand-daughter whose untimely
departure she sincerely mourned, was
lovingly laid to rest.
All four of her children with other
relatives and friends visited her last
Sunday, and during the day she spoke
of two (Mrs. Ethel Gabriel and Velda
Irons) gone from the family circle
since the last meeting, and said,
"How are we going to stand it with
Ehtel and Velda both gone. It seems
God plucks the flowers," and now we
may add, sooner or later, plucks the
ripened grain.
Grandma has been seriously ill a number
of times in the last eight years and
has been lovingly cared for by all her
children, but special mention can be
made of her daughter, Mrs. James
Gabriel who cared for her through
health as well as sickness for eight
winters, giving her the best room
in the house for her own, the
brightest and coziest corner in the
living room for her chair and denying
herself many pleasant trips to stay
at home with "mother".
The deceased leaves to mourn her
departure the four children above
mentioned, with twenty grand-children,
24 great grandchildren, four brothers,
Henry and Nicholas Lang, of Wilton,
George Lang, of Muscatine, Jacob Lang
of Santa Anna, Cal., one sister,
Mrs. Christa Dimmitt, of Colby, Kansas,
besides a host of more distant relatives,
neighbors and friends.
Funeral service was conducted by her
pastor, Rev. J. Will Payne, assisted by
Rev. Tenant, of Deep River, after
which the mortal body was laid to
rest. The grief stricken relatives
have the sympathy of the community.
