REV. CHAS. GOLTRY BURIED HERE LAST SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Charles Clinton Goltry, son of William and Cordelia Goltry, was born near Russell, Lucas County, Iowa, being one of a family of ten children.

His early life was spent on the old homestead.

When quite young, he united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Russell, Iowa and took a very active part in the work.

He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Matheny and shortly after they went to Oklahoma, where he entered the work in the missions.

He was admitted to conference on trial in 1912 and to field membership in 1920.

He was ordained a deacon in 1920 and an elder in 1922.

He held appointments in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and returning to Iowa in 1928 he had charges in Cincinnati, Lynnville, Eddyville, Thornburg, Lone Tree, Mt. Sterling and Brighton, the present charge.

Mrs. Goltry departed this life during the stay at Lone Tree. Later he was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Matheny, who survives.

He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. G. J. Gittinger and Mrs. H. W. Gittinger, both of Chariton, and two brothers, William F. Goltry of Des Moines and David Goltry of Oskaloosa. His oldest sister, Mrs. Eva Murray, departed this life June 6, just two weeks prior to Rev. Goltry's death.

He had been in failing health the past year and was taken seriously ill on June 3 enroute home from Mt. Pleasant, where he had attended a district Methodist Conference.

On June 12, he was removed to the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, where he passed away on June 20th.

Funeral services were held in his church in Brighton Sunday morning, conducted by Dr. Guy J. Fansher, superintendent of the Burlington district, assisted by Rev. W. B. Ireland of Fairfield, Rev. Hightshoe of Ottumwa, Dr. F. C. Witzleman of Washington, Rev. Whiting, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Brighton and Rev. Filmore, pastor of the Christian church at Brighton.

Sunday afternoon services were held at Russell, conducted by Rev. Clark, pastor of the Methodist church, assisted by Dr. Fansher and Rev. Fred Simpson of Chariton.

Interment was made in the Chariton cemetery.
