Samuel, born along Anthony's Creek in Greenbrier County (West) Virginia, travelled with his parents and younger siblings to central Indiana in 1836. There he married Harriet Herrold, daughter of the Humphreys' neighbor, Daniel. By 1850 the Humphreys had moved to Knox County, Illinois, where twelve of their fourteen children were born. When the Civil War concluded, Samuel moved his farming ‘clan' to Livingston County, Missouri, where Jessie Belle, the youngest, was born in 1870. Samuel passed away in Chillicothe just three years later.[Bio by Richard Humphrey #47141124]
