Born in Knox County, Illinois, William accompanied his parents and many siblings in 1868 in their move to Livingston, Missouri. Three years later at the age of 17, he came west to California and took up farming in Sutter County. On November 16, 1875 William married Araminta Jane “Mittie” Moore there in Sutter County. By 1892 according to voter registration records, William dropped the letter “s” from the family name as did several of his other siblings. William continued farming until his death in 1913 from lip cancer (epithelioma). [Bio by Richard Humphrey #47141124]
