Born in Ohio, Harriet's father, Daniel, moved his family west to Indiana by the 1830s, becoming neighbors to the William Humphreys family. Just before Harriet's 17th birthday, she married William's son, Samuel Warren Humphreys. After the birth of their first child, Cynthia Ann, in 1844, the Humphreys moved to Illinois where the next 12 children were born. Relocating to Missouri after the Civil War, Harriet's last child, Jessie Belle Humphreys, was born there in 1870. When husband, Samuel, passed away in 1873, the Humphreys siblings dispersed widely – from Texas to California and Washington. Harriet herself remained in Mooresville, Missouri at least until 1880, after which, she joined several sons in the eastern part of Washington Territory by 1887. [Bio by Richard Humphrey #47141124]
