The toll from highway accidents, which sometimes seems like a far away set of statistics, was brought sharply home to hundreds of Nemaha county people recently when a fine farm couple of north of Seneca, Mr. and Mrs. Benedict Rottinghaus, lost their lives in an accident east of Pawnee, Nebraska on December 8, 1965.

Benedict Rottinghaus was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rottinghaus, now deceased, and was born in Seneca on April 12, 1905.

Mrs. Rottinghaus was born at Seneca, September 23, 1912, and was the former Marcella Stallbaumer, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Stallbaumer. Her father is deceased; her mother, Mrs. Anna Stallbaumer, lives in Seneca.

Marcella Stallbaumer and Benedict Rottinghaus were married on May 16, 1934, at St. Mary's Church at St. Benedict, KS.

They farmed, and their special interests were their children, their grandchildren when these arrived and Mr. Rottinghaus enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mrs. Rottinghaus enjoyed her garden.

Both were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church, he of Holy Name Society, she, of St. Ann's Altar Society.

They leave their children, Sister Benedicta, of the Order of St. Benedict, teaching at Lenexa, KS; Edward Rottinghaus, Seneca, KS; Mrs. Evelyn Murfin, Gladstone, MO; Irene Rottinghaus, Kansas City, MO; Eileen Rottinghaus, Monte Vista, CO; and Mark Rottinghaus, of the home.

Mr. Rottinghaus also leaves his brothers, Ignatius Rottinghaus, Baileyville, KS; Tony Rottinghaus, Seneca, KS; sister, MRs Minnie Renninger, Seneca, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Rottinghaus, and sister, Elizabeth Rottinghaus.

Besides her children and grandchildren, Mrs. Rottinghaus also leaves her mother, Anna Stallbaumer, Seneca, KS; brothers, Eugene Stallbaumer, Seneca, KS; Herman Stallbaumer, Centralia, KS; Victor Stallbaumer, Baileyville, KS; Paul Stallbaumer, Centralia, KS; Norbert Stallbaumer, Seneca, KS; Melvin Stallbaumer, Corning, KS; Sylvester Stallbaumer, Seneca, KS; Walter Stallbaumer, Seneca, KS; sisters, Mrs. Florence Fangman, Seneca, KS; Mrs. Edna Sack, Corning, KS; Mrs. Alma Sack, Denver, CO; and Mary Ann Huninghake, Baileyville, KS. She was preceded in death by her father, W.E. Stallbaumer, sisters, Irene Fangman and Doris Stallbaumer.

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Rottinghaus were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Benedict, KS. Burial was in the church cemetery.
