Plane Crash Near DuBois Claims Trio.....
Three persons, two from Northern Armstrong county and one from Clarion were killed last (Tuesday) night when their small aircraft went down near here.

Investigating State Police from the DuBois substation said the three have been identified as Samuel Harmon Jr., 40 of King Street, New Bethlehem; Mrs Olive Harmon, his mother of South Street, New Bethlehem, and John F McGinley, 46, the pilot, of Wood Street, Clarion.

Police said the crash occurred between 9:30 and 10 pm Tuesday about three miles north of the DuBois-Jefferson County Airport. The three were flying in a 1970 single engine Cherokee.

Authorities said the craft was enroute to the airfield from Harrisburg when it collided into a wooded hillside. All three were listed as being killed instantly.

Investigators said the crash was not discovered for about two hours. The discovery was made, they said, when residents in the vicinity of the crash heard reports of a missing craft and recalled hearing a low-flying airplane earlier. The crash site, police said, was about one half mile from the highway. Additional details on the crash were not immediately availabale, with Federal aviation authorities and a State Police investigator from Hollidaysburg dispatched in an attempt to learn what may have caused the accident.

Mrs Harmon's body was removed to the Charles D Alcorn Funeral Home, Hawthorn and her son's body was expected to be taken to the same funeral home following an autopsy at a DuBois hospital. A funeral home spokesman said funeral arrangements are expected to be made later Wednesday.

Funeral services were held here Saturday for two of the three area persons who were killed Tuesday night in the crash of a single engine aircraft near the Jefferson County DuBois Airport.

Services were conducted at the Charles D Alcorn Funeral Home here for Mrs Orlando (Olive) Harman, 69, of South Street, New Bethlehem, (South Bethlehem) and her son, Samuel O Harmon Jr of King Street, South Bethlehem.

On the same day, funeral services were held in Clarion for the third victim, John Francis Patrick McGinley of Wood Street, Clarion, believed to have been the pilot of the ill fated Piper Cherokee Arrow. All three were pronounced dead on arrival at the DuBois Hospital.

The plane was owned by Mr Harmon, who was taking lessons on instrument flying from the Clarion pilot. The craft had departed the DuBois airport about 6:15 pm Tuesday to take Mrs Jennie Seigworth, a relative of Mrs Harman's to Harrisburg. The crash occurred on the return flight.

The craft had been in radio contact with the airfield and reported that runway lights were sighted. Searchers who found the wreckage said the engine and control panel of the plane had been separated from the fuselage. The left wing was torn away.
