Daily Notes, Canonsburg PA, Saturday 21 November 1925, front page - Robert Guthrie Dies At Home Of His Son --- ROBERT GUTHRIE, who was in the 79th year of his age, died at 4:30 at the home of his son, R. FRANK GUTHRIE, 240 Smithfield Street, Friday, November 20. He died of the infirmities of old age and had been gradually failing for the past two months. He was a son of WILLIAM and ELIZABETH CRAWFORD GUTHRIE and was born September 27, 1847, in Peters Township. On October 24, 1872, he was united in marriage to MARY JANE FURNEAUX, a daughter of WILLIAM and MARGARET FURNEAUX, who died July 5, 1890. Eight children were born to this union, as follows: MARGARET ELIZABETH, wife of CHARLES CRAWFORD; SARAH JANE, wife of J. N. BELL; WILLIAM H. GUTHRIE, of Smith Street; JOHN L. GUTHRIE, of 424 Highfield Avenue; R. FRANK GUTHRIE of 240 Smithfield Street; JAMES PARK GUTHRIE of Grove City, Pa. MARTHA EMMA GUTHRIE died December 28, 1898 and CHARLES WILLARD GUTHRIE died July 20, 1890. Eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Guthrie lived most of his life in Washington County, and for the past 18 years he had lived in Canonsburg. He united with the Central Presbyterian Church several years ago. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Center Presbyterian Church. The services will be in charge of Rev. E. K. Van Winkle, pastor of the First Christian Church of Canonsburg, assisted by Rev. Waite and Rev. A. B. Brown. Interment will be made in Center Cemetery.
