Mr. Guthrie was born at Hills Station September 16, 1879, a son of the late Robert and Mary Jane Furnaux Guthrie and had lived all his life in the Canonsburg vicinity until 15 years ago when he moved to Washington. He was well known as a carpenter and painter in Canonsburg.
He was twice married, first in 1904 to Lizzie Hamilton who died in 1930, and to Mr. Margaret Brown, of Washington, in 1942. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Canonsburg.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret, at home; two daughters, Mary, wife of DeMoide Clutter, Washington; and Sylvia, wife of Ralph Kelly, Mansfield, 0.: one son Robert Clair Guthrie, Eighty Four, R.D 1; two brothers, William, Canonsburg, and Park, Adamsville, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One of the grandsons, John Saint, now of Columbus, 0., was reared by Mr. Guthrie.
Also surviving are three step daughters: Ethel, wife of John Cimino, Washington; Margaret, wife of Edward Rowe, Washington; and Viola, wife of Robert Irey, North East, Md. Two daughters, one son, three sisters and two brothers are deceased.
Friends may call at the Robert C. Gordon Funeral Home, corner Wilson and East Katherine avenues, after noon Thursday, July 16. The family will be at the funeral home from 2 to 4:30 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Saturday, July 18, at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev. Peter M. Macko, pastor of First Christian Church. Internment in Oak Springs Cemetery, Canonsburg.
