James Lawson,73, and his wife, Lakie, 61, both of 1232 Hampton Avenue, died in a four-vehicle accident at the intersection of Stone Drive and Fairmont in Kingsport Thursday afternoon.

Born in Hawkins County, James Lawson moved to Kingsport 42 years ago, and had been employed by Mead Paper Company for 25 years, retiring in 1968. Both he and Mrs. Lawson were members of the Riverside Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Lawson was born in Hancock County.

Survivors include: for Mr. and Mrs. Lawson, six children, three daughters and three sons, Mrs. Robert (Wilma) Mullins, Church Hill. Mrs. A.J. (Barbara) Stout, Kingsport, and Mrs. Richard (Edith) Parrott, Bristol. Tenn., Clarence Wayne and Kenneth Lawson, all of Kingsport: nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Lawson's survivors include: two sisters; Mrs. Blanche Manis, Kingsport and Mrs. Ella Mae Hurd, Rogersville; four brothers Clay and Grant Lawson, Rogersville, Sturm Lawson, Church Hill, and Kyle Lawson, Stanton, Texas.

Mrs. Lawson's survivors include: one sister. Miss Viola Kilgore, Kingsport, four brothers, Ed Kilgore, Kokomo, Ind., Ray, Henry and Eugene Kilgore, all of Kingsport.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home is in charge.

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. James Lawson will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday from Riverside Avenue Baptist Church, with Rev. Dana Crawford, Rev. Gerald Depley and Rev. Lonnie Wooten Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Lawson will be Donald W. Howell, Malcolm L Cooles, Everett Crawford, P.P. Crawford, Fred Swall, Robert Kendrick, James E. Roberts, John L Hodge, Jess Johson and W.R. Shirley. Pallbearers for Mrs. Lawson will be Steve Kilgore, Oakie Kilgore, Gary Lynn Kilgore, Bill Hurd, Kyle Hurd, Eddie Kilgore, James Lawson, Charles Manis and I.D. Manis. The bodies will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services. Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
