Hugh Kyle Lawson

Hugh Kyle Lawson, 84, of Stanton, went to be with his Saviour on Monday, January 8, 200 at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 10, 2001 at First Baptist Church in Garden City with Rev. Monroe Teeters of Big Spring and Rev. Al Steifer, officiating. Interment will follow at Garden City Cemetery.

He was born on June 7, 1916 in Eidson, Tennessee and married Allene Keene on May 25, 1943 in Saragosa, Texas. He moved to Stanton in January 1954 from Pecos and worked at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring as an aircraft mechanic, retiring on June 11, 1976 after 33 years of service. He had lived in Garden City for nine years, returning to Stanton in 1993.

Mr. Lawson was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. Mr. Lawson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Garden City where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Martin County Sheriff Posse.

Survivors include his wife, Allene Lawson of Stanton; two sons, Glenn H. Lawson of Alverado and Larry G. Lawson of Lake Mexia; two daughters, Dottie Smith of Colorado City and Suzie Hillger of Garden City; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be George Smith, Teddy Smith, Denis Calverley, Bo Sullivan, James Householder and Fred Schroyer. The family suggests memorials to: First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 177, Garden City, Texas 79739 Arrangements under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home.
